Stated simply, over-clocking is the act of making a computer processor (cpu)
run faster than it had originally been intended to. This is
accomplished by a variety of techniques, including modifying the
motherboard's internal settings and installing the required cooling the
cpu will need to run in a stable condition at the higher speed.
Over-clocking has traditionally been popular with gamers and others who
require fast system performance without having or wanting to spend the
money usually needed to reach these higher performance levels.
Is it safe?
Over-clocking a cpu will reduce its life expectancy and as such
it is not recommended by equipment manufacturers' as a method of
computer operation. Over-clocking is the process by which a
processor is made to run faster than it had been designed to do, thus
contributing to stresses that will affect its life-cycle.
OK, so why do it?
When discussing over-clocking one must take into account the fact that cpu obsolescence occurs at such a quick and regular pace these days that
reduced cpu life is typically of small concern. In all likelihood,
a cpu will have been replaced due to age
before it will fail from being over-clocked (perhaps long before).
Thus for this reason some people prefer to buy a less expensive computer
chip and over-clock it to a state whereby it is comparable to the current
high-end processors available at the time. In this way it may be
possible to literally save sometimes hundreds of dollars compared to
what a high-end non over-clocked chip would sell for. This is the
main reason why over-clocking has and continues to be extremely popular
among a certain segment of computer users.
For information relating to
over-clocked systems and equipment and what we can provide to you please
email us with what you're looking for. We will respond with an
over-clocked solution that is demonstrated to be most stable.
Thus we will not over-clock equipment to specifications that cannot be
made reliable. Due to the constantly fluctuating availability of
equipment and possible alternative options we need to customize
offerings individually in this way to effectively communicate our
solutions that are most tailored to your needs. Thank you in
advance.
